Momath rebrand
Mathematics illuminates patterns in our world. In this experimental project for National Museum of Mathematics in downtown New York, I developed a visual system, which isn't merely a branding redesign but also a visual narrative, curated to spark curiosity and explore how design can engage audiences and foster a deeper appreciation for the mathematical universe. The visual identity centers around a customized typeface, directly inspired by the shapes of mathematical symbols such as the pi constant, lemniscate, braces, golden ratio, and more. The design of the letter "M" also draws inspiration from a key mathematical element, the parabola. In terms of layout, to highlight the uniqueness of those dynamic exhibits in the museum, I positioned the signs outside the frame to complement the typeface, creating a striking visual effect that can be used to emphasize specific museum events or programs.
This unique wordmark, featuring iconic math symbols and graphics, skillfully highlights math's logic, complexity, precision, and distinctiveness. It visually captivates, igniting curiosity and admiration for math. Using symbols in layouts enhances exhibitions. Black-and-white is the main color scheme for impact, with vibrant colors for activities. In short, this custom typeface and symbols creatively showcase math's beauty to a diverse audience.
